What is the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic?

The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) gives low income taxpayers free educational and outreach services on federal tax matters year-round. We never charge a fee for our services. We are not the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). We do not prepare and file tax returns, but we can refer you to agencies that can help you.

All information shared between you and our staff is completely confidential.

How can I get help from the LITC?

El Paso Affordable Housing CUSO assists low-income individuals and those who speak English as a Second Language (ESL) to increase awareness among the non-English speaking communities in El Paso County about their tax rights and responsibilites. We provide educational workshops, seminars, and training to community groups, social service agencies, and others about taxpayer's rights and reponsibiites,

We also provide referral to legal assitance to individual taxpayers facing a tax controversy.

Educational Workshops

Our LITC workshops cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Earned Income Credit;
  • Child Tax Credit;
  • Employee/independent contractor status;
  • Taxpayer's rights and responsibilities;
  • Choosing a tax return preparer;
  • Refund anticipation loans;
  • Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs);
  • Debt forgiveness;
  • Innocent/injured spouse; and
  • Other related issues.
